Dry Eyes

What is Dry Eye Syndrome?

Often people experience a condition known as “Dry Eyes” and the name justifies what patients feel. This results from a lowered production of tears or evaporation of natural tears. The body produces tears to keep the surface of the eye and inside of the eyelid moist. In a normal eye, every time you blink, an oil layer is secreted and mixed with the “water” layer of the tears. The oil layer prevents evaporation of the “water” layer. When a person fails to produce sufficient oil or “water” layers, this results in the condition known as dry eye syndrome.

If you are experiencing dry eye symptoms, there are various treatments to alleviate these and to help maintain a healthy ocular surface. Blurred vision and watering of the eye are symptoms of untreated dry eyes.
