An eye exam is a normal and repeated occurrence in the life of every person due to many common conditions such as presbyopia, cataracts, refractive errors requiring glasses or contacts, and other vision problems like eye infections, eye pain or redness. Serving Northwest Houston, Cypress, Spring, and Tomball, the Ophthalmologists and Optometrists of 1960 Eye Surgeons are committed to excellence in vision care, eye exams and cosmetic facial procedures and surgery. Offering our patients comprehensive ophthalmology services means we screen and treat multiple vision problems and eye diseases. Our eye exams include comprehensive examination of the eye as well as refraction. Refraction is the measurement of the eye for correction of myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia. More specialized eye care includes diabetic exams and plaquenil and interferon monitoring. What is a Refractive Error? When the eye is longer or shorter than normal, this creates a refractive error. A refraction error is normally corrected by glasses, contact lenses or surgery. Astigmatism and presbyopia are additional types of refractive error. Cataracts can also cause refractive errors. When refractive errors are present on the eye exam, your Optometrist or Ophthalmologist will prescribe or recommend glasses, contacts or surgical treatment such as LASIK if you are a candidate.
